Wound Care

Hard-to-heal wounds demand advanced care - that's why there's the Advanced Wound Center (AWC) at Iberia Medical Center.  The AWC specializes in the treatment of patients with chronic, non-healing cutaneous wounds.  By using cutting-edge treatments, which may include hyperbaric oxygen therapy and sophisticated case management, we help patients with chronic wounds heal faster - and when wounds heal faster, lives improve.

After a complete evaluation and medical history assessment is performed, typical treatment protocols may include:

    •    Topical Dressings

    •    Infection Control

    •    Compression Therapy

    •    Debridement of the Wound

    •    Vascular Studies

    •    Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

    •    Orthotics

    •    Patient Education

The Advanced Wound Center at Iberia Medical provides specialized treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, which are defined as sores or wounds that have not significantly improved from conventional treatments. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations.

1 in 4 families has a family member with a chronic wound. 25% people living with diabetes will experience a foot ulcer. 82% of non-traumatic amputations are the result of vascular disease. The IMC Advanced Wound Center is one of only 5 centers in Louisiana to achieve this designation.
